The University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications from qualified individuals for a full-time, clinical or tenure track position (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) in Radiation Oncology. Teaching responsibilities include didactic and clinical instruction in the professional curriculum as well supervising radiation rotations of medical oncology residents, interns and the surgical oncology fellow as part of their respective training programs. Participation in the clinical service in the UF Veterinary Hospital includes receiving and management of radiation oncology cases, consultations with practicing veterinarians, participating in the growth of this service and continuing education.

The successful candidate will join a fully integrated oncology service consisting of three medical oncologists, one radiation oncologist, and two surgical oncologists. In addition, the oncology service has eight trainees, including residents (6), an intern (1), and a surgical oncology fellow (1). The UF Veterinary Hospital has a fully-staffed neurology service (three board certified neurologists), and radiology service (seven board certified radiologists) that work in tandem with the radiation oncology team. Features of the hospital include a 1.5T MRI (Toshiba Titan®), helical CT (Toshiba Prime®), gamma camera, ten operating rooms, C-arm fluoroscopy, portable radiography, state of the art laparoscopy/thoracoscopy and interventional radiology suite.

The radiation oncology service is equipped with a state-of-the-art Edge radiosurgery linear accelerator system from Varian, with 6MV photon and 6-20 MeV electron energies. Integrated features including a 6-degree of freedom couch (PerfectPitch), a high definition 2.5 mm multi-leaf collimator (HD120), and an advanced kV imaging system provide high-precision treatments. This system offers 2D kV-MV imaging, 3D CBCT, and a 4D CBCT with a respiratory gating package. Treatment planning is performed with most updated version of Eclipse software (Varian, v.16). Medical physics support is provided by the McKnight Brain Institute at the University of Florida College of Medicine under the direction of Dr. Frank Bova. The radiation oncology service is supported by one radiation oncology resident, one highly experienced certified radiation therapist, one radiation oncology technician, one anesthesia technician, and one veterinary assistant.

Extensive opportunities for collaborative research exist within the College and with the UF College of Medicine (Shands Cancer Center) and McKnight Brain Institute (including Comparative Stereotactic Radiosurgery Program). The oncology service also offers various studies and clinical trials and is a member of the Comparative Oncology Trials Consortium (COTC). The successful candidate will have access to a well-equipped comparative oncology research lab and be eligible to compete for competitive intramural and endowed research funds. Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent degree. Rank and salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s qualifications and experience.
