Robert Delaine Pechman, Jr., DVM, age 81, passed away on January 19, 2026, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Dr. Pechman devoted his life to veterinary medicine, education, and lifelong learning. Over the course of his 50+ year career as a gifted teacher and internationally respected specialist in veterinary radiology, he held faculty appointments at The Ohio State University, Auburn University, Louisiana State University, and Oklahoma State University, where he played a significant role in advancing diagnostic imaging education and mentoring young clinicians. He retired 2005 as Professor Emeritus after 20 years at Louisiana State University, where he was a perennial student favorite for his humor, breadth of knowledge, and deep commitment to his students’ success.

A leader in his field, Dr. Pechman was deeply involved with professional organizations, including the International Veterinary Radiology Association (IVRA) and the American College of Veterinary Radiology (ACVR), where he served as the College’s second Executive Director. He served in leadership roles, contributed to the advancement of the specialty, and was a frequent and sought-after speaker at national and international meetings. His lectures were known for their insight, rigor, and accessibility, and he took particular pride in helping colleagues and trainees grow in confidence and skill.
